About
Do You Think God Stays in Heaven Because He too Lives in Fear of What He's Created is a catchphrase and copypasta used to show disgust or disappointment with others. The phrase initially entered widespread usage in association with the Minions anti-fandom that emerged in mid-2015, but it has since become a more versatile expression that conveys a sense of utter disappointment or astonishment, in a similar vein to other phrases like God Left or Everyday We Stray Further from God's Light.
Origin
The phrase comes from 2002's Spy Kids 2. In the film, Steve Buscemi's character hides on the mysterious island from the creatures he's created and wonder if God does as well.
Spread
The phrase began seeing use in ironic Minions memes. On June 17th, 2015, Redditor Omega_Borealis used the phrase as a title to a Minions meme on /r/terriblefacebookmemes[2] (shown below, left). On July 13th, 2015, the Tumblr account Iguana Mouth posted Steve Buscemi as a minion with the quote next to him (shown below, right).[1]
In the ensuing years, the phrase saw use when paired with what are considered cringeworthy images, such as Minions, Furries, Graham and Dancing Hot Dog. For example, a Graham meme posted to Imgur on July 26th, 2016 gained over 1,600 views (shown below, left). A March 17th, 2017 post to /r/MemeEconomy by user plumbusmaker9000 gained over 2,100 points (shown below, right).
